vertical declining sundial

The Vertical Declining Dial is mounted on a vertical surface.

In this design, the adjustable gnomon is set at the site permanently to the true South orientation. Without any other hour lines except the vertical one here, the dial is classified as a Noon Marker. Over time, the shape of the analemma will be traced by the light spot as the Sun "Souths" either before or after standard (watch) time during the year.

VDAS pieces

The milled pieces assemble easily and are milled from aluminium bar and rod stock. Brass or bronze designs are also appropriate for external conditions.

vertical declining sundial calib

The Top of Wall mounting is designed for low walls in an open garden area. The standard maximizes the amount of time information projected on the wall. Daylight hours are read from the lines cast by the angled style, and yearly seasons are read from the location of the spot of light cast by the conically pierced gnomon. The hour angles and seasonal lines of declination are calculable or manually plotted.

Other types of sundials including polar, equatorial, horizontal and vertical, declining, and analemmic dials can be designed and calculated for your specific location by Spiral Spot's computer programs.
