While the kindling box is a very old and useful fireplace object, the curved and sloped form of this one is derived from the american colonial silver case which was smaller and usually sat on a sideboard. Clearly the design is adaptable to many functions.
This design is made of clear white pine, dovetailed corners with a splined bombe front and turned ball feet. The interior is lined with copper sheet to protect from insects which may be in firewood.
